New Developments in Breast Cancer Research - From Lab to Clinic

Introduction

Glasshouse International Centre for Music

25th to 27th November 2024

SPONSORED BY BREAST CANCER NOW

Increased awareness, early diagnosis and the introduction of novel, targeted therapies, have led to significantly improved outcomes for breast cancer patients.  However, there are many challenges that remain, particularly in improving the outcome for patients with triple negative and metastatic disease, overcoming therapeutic resistance, and improving quality of life for patients during and after cancer care.

This meeting is a follow up to the BACR's previous successful breast cancer meeting 2019 held at the same venue which was highly rated by the participants and aims to bring together both clinicians and scientists with an interest in breast cancer research.

This meeting will cover the most recent developments in breast cancer research with world-leading speakers providing their latest perspective to each topic.  The programme contains insights into newly emerging breast cancer treatments, including advances being made in the area of DNA damage inhibitors and treatments designed to overcome chemo-resistance.

To complement the increasing use of targeted and immunotherapies in breast cancer, there will be focussed on genetic, epigenetic, molecular, immunological and microenvironmental drivers of metastasis.

Additional sessions will be dedicated to discussing critical gaps and identifying priorities in breast cancer treatment, including male breast cancer.  There will also be a resource-based session aimed at guiding researchers through the process of obtaining high quality tissue, model systems and/or data to optimise their research output.

In addition, there will be several oral presentations selected from the submitted abstracts, offering junior investigators and students the opportunity to present their work to an expert audience.  An evening programme is focussed on future career options of early career researchers, including discussions on becoming a research fellow, moving to industry and transitioning to becoming a university lecturer.

Confirmed topics:

  • Advances in treatments for breast cancer
  • Mechanisms of tumourigenesis and metastasis
  • Mechanisms of chemo resistance
  • Molecular regulation of breast cancer
  • The tumour microenvironment and metastasis
  • Bridging the gaps
  • Research resources
  • Career Development
