A Transformative Journey at Glyco27: My BACR Travel Award Experience
Receiving the Travel Award from the British Association for Cancer Research (BACR) was an incredible honour and a pivotal moment in my research career. During my final year of my Ph.D., I attended the 27th International Glycoconjugate Symposium “Glyco27,” held jointly with the 8th Canadian Glycomics Symposium in Edmonton, Canada, in May 2025. Being in Edmonton, surrounded by leading cancer immunologists and glycoscience experts, was both inspiring and enlightening. I was thrilled to present my poster titled "The Role of Fusobacterium nucleatum-derived LPS and OMVs on Siglec-7-mediated Immunomodulation", a topic that lies at the intersection of microbiology and cancer immunology, which I am deeply passionate about.
The experience of presenting my work to a global audience was both exhilarating and humbling. The reception was overwhelmingly positive and the discussions I had with leading researchers in the field provided me with new insights and perspectives. I was not only able to showcase my research but also engage in meaningful discussions that led to valuable collaborations and constructive feedback. It was truly inspiring to connect with fellow researchers and hear their thoughts on my findings, further validating the importance of my work.
The support from BACR made all of this possible. The award not only provided financial assistance for travel and accommodation but also gave me the confidence to present my work on an international platform. It was a moment of professional growth that not only showcased my research but also connected me with scientists and researchers whose work I deeply admire. The experience reaffirmed my commitment to cancer research and inspired me to continue exploring the complex mechanisms underlying immunomodulation and cancer. I am profoundly grateful to the BACR for this opportunity, which has helped me grow both as a researcher and as a member of the global scientific community. The connections I made and the knowledge I gained will continue to guide my work as I strive to contribute to the ongoing fight against cancer.
