Kevin Ryan
Senior Group Leader, Cancer Research UK Scotland Institute
Kevin obtained a BSc from the University of Liverpool and a PhD from the University of Glasgow. Following post-doctoral work at the US National Cancer Institute, he was awarded a CRUK Senior Fellowship and established a research group at the CRUK Beatson Institute (now CRUK Scotland Institute). In 2007 he became a Senior Group Leader at the Beatson, and was appointed Professor of Molecular Cell Biology at the University of Glasgow. Kevin’s studies focus on understanding how tumour cells regulate cell viability by control of apoptosis, autophagy and cell metabolism during tumour development and cancer therapy. He has received several awards for his work including the EACR ‘Cancer Researcher Award’ and the 2012 Tenovus Medal. Kevin is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh (Scotland’s National Academy), a Fellow of the European Academy of Cancer Sciences, Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) and a Member of Academia Europaea. Kevin is also Editor-in-Chief of the FEBS journal, Molecular Oncology.
