Postdoctoral Scientist in Prostate Oncobiology

  • Salary in the range of £30,000 - £39,800 (dependent upon qualifications and experience)
  • Job Ref: MI/17/46_4
  • Duration: 3 year position

About the role:

They are looking for a highly-motivated Postdoctoral Scientist to join Dr Baena’s Prostate Oncobiology group. The work of Dr Baena’s group is focused on dissecting the role of prostate progenitor subpopulations on aggressive prostate cancer initiation to identify novel therapeutic targets.

A major challenge in prostate cancer management is to distinguish indolent from aggressive prostate cancer as a consequence of genetic and cellular heterogeneity. Our current studies suggest that this cell-of-origin model may have implications for the development of castrate resistant disease. The successful applicant will work on a project delineating castration-resistant cancer initiation to develop novel biomarkers and therapies. A particular focus of this project is the understanding of the transcriptional program of the newly identified castration-resistant tumour initiating cells, and to functionally characterize how these cells contribute to disease progression.

About you:

You must hold a PhD in a relevant related subject and have research laboratory experience. You will be well-grounded in basic cellular and molecular biology and have experience of working with in vivo cancer models. You will have significant experience of cell culture, particularly in vitro 3D culture systems and handling primary cells. Profound experience in FACS analyses and lineage tracing work is also essential for this position.

This is an exciting opportunity for you to be involved in developing and driving the project as well as writing up work for presentation and publication.
