Applications are invited for the above post, which will provide an excellent opportunity for a career-minded individual to take on an important and rewarding leadership role within the School of Medicine. The University will be launching two new research-based undergraduate degrees (BSc and MSci) in Cancer Sciences in 2019. We are seeking a course director to lead this initiative with responsibility for the planning, running and management of both courses in Cancer Sciences, within the new Centre for Cancer Sciences in the School, and the teaching activities of the academics and related staff on the course. The current workload planning allocation for this role is 50% time and applicants must recognise that they will need to make this significant commitment to setting up this exciting and ground-breaking new course

The post holder will be expected to accept significant leadership, management and administrative responsibility within the Division and School. As course director, you will be an active member of the senior management team within the Division. The course director will also be an active member of the new Centre for Cancer Sciences, will play a role in recruitment of up to 11 new academic staff to the Centre, and will have the opportunity to be research active, supervise PhD students and will have laboratory facilities available in the new multidisciplinary life sciences building that will house all the academics within the Centre. The role will have a significant impact on the direction, strategy, objectives and results of the University by influencing and shaping the available resources as appropriate to meet the current and future needs of the University, and the role holder would be expected to be able to significantly influence both strategy and direction.
